Chuck Higgins, Director of the Office of Public Health, National Park Service

CAPT Chuck Higgins is a commissioned officer in the US Public Health Service currently assigned to the National Park Service where he is the director of the Office of Public Health. Working in public health at the local, state and national level for 37 years, Chuck has always been interested in how systems thinking can be used to improve public health practice.

In his current position, he’s teamed up with the National Park Service Wildlife Health Branch to explore how One Health might be translated from concept to application. “We know that our health, the health of other species and the health of the planet are inexorably linked, the real question is how can we work in an interdisciplinary way to translate that concept into everyday practice.”
